The Rwanda Young Water Professional (RYWP) has implemented three (3) research-oriented projects including: i) Awareness raising on the use of Constructed Wetlands (CWs) for wastewater treatment in Rwanda, ii) Nature-based flood adaptation measures in informal settlements, Mpazi Sub-Catchment, City of Kigali (CoK), Rwanda, iii) Musanze City Urban Water Resilience Initiative.

  1. Awareness raising on the use of Constructed Wetlands (CWs) for wastewater treatment in Rwanda: Under the FABRI project initiated by the African Water Association (AfWA) and funded by USAID, the constructed wetland project proposed by the RYWP was financed. The main objective of the project was to raise awareness in Rwanda, on the use of CWs and to encourage the choice of CWs technology by the Public, Private Sector, Government’s Agencies, NGOs and other interested parties
  2. Nature-based flood adaptation measures in informal settlements, Mpazi Sub-Catchment, City of Kigali (CoK), Rwanda: The project was funded by the Rwanda National Commission for UNESCO, through its International Hydrological Program, was implemented by RYWP. The main goal of the project was to assess the potential of adopting Nature based flood adaption measures in an informal settlement to achieve sustainable and resilient development.
  • Musanze City Urban Water Resilience Initiative: In this project, the Rwanda Young Water Professional (RYWP) partnered with the World Resources Institute (WRI), as the Urban Water Research Consultant, to develop an urban water resilience action plan for the City of Musanze using the City Water Resilience Approach (CWRA) framework.

In addition, as part of its technical assistance to the RWB, IUCN partnered with the RYWP, to recruit 6 Interns from within the Rwanda YWP network in accordance with standards set and agreed by both IUCN and RYWP with the immediate objective of supporting the RWB to implement the Embedding Integrated Water Resource Management in Rwanda (EWMR) Project.
